Code of Conduct

Bangalore Tango Academy is committed to providing a platform for Tango enthusiasts in a suitable and congenial atmosphere. To ensure a harassment-free dance environment, we enforce the following Code of Conduct policies.

Harassment includes but is not limited to:

  • Inappropriate Physical Contact: Any unwelcome physical touch or attention.
  • Uncomfortable Dance Holding: Holding your partner in a manner that causes discomfort during dancing.
  • Stalking and Following: Persistently following or messaging someone on any platform, especially when the contact is unwelcome.
  • Unwanted Social Invitations: Repeatedly asking someone to socialize outside of dance hours, particularly after they have declined such invitations.
  • Persistent Watching and Contact: Continuously observing, following, or contacting someone, either physically or virtually.
  • Offensive Remarks or Jokes: Making derogatory or inappropriate comments or jokes.
  • Unwelcome Conduct: Any other physical, verbal, or non-verbal behaviour that is unwelcome.
  • Reinforcing Hierarchy: Actions that perpetuate a perceived hierarchy within the community.
  • Misuse of Influence: Using a position of power or authority improperly against an individual.
  • Deliberate Intimidation: Any form of intentional intimidation.
  • Encouraging Misconduct: Advocating for or encouraging such behaviour.

Teaching and Physical Contact:

Teaching dance is a physical activity, and appropriate physical contact between students and teachers is essential for training. Bangalore Tango Academy recognizes that such physical contact is a potentially complex area and fully acknowledges its responsibilities for safeguarding students and teachers and protecting their welfare. To fulfil these obligations, the following principles and procedures are in place:

  • Individual Awareness: Contact by the teacher is made with particular awareness of the needs of each individual to assist the dancer in correcting placement.
  • Sensitivity and Care: All teachers will treat any physical contact with due sensitivity and care, respecting the wishes of the student at all times.

Enforcement:

Meaningful and appropriate actions will be taken by the Code of Conduct Committee after a fair and detailed deliberation to address any violations.
