Our Community Standards
Tango is a dance of deep
connection and mutual respect that requires being in very close proximity with
one another. Because of this unique intimacy, it is imperative for us to keep
our class atmosphere clean and comfortable for everyone. We maintain high
standards for the kind of people who join us to ensure that every student meets
our requirements for conduct and respectful communication.
These FAQs serve as a safeguard
for our community. We are very intentional about who we welcome into the
academy because we believe the quality of the dance floor starts with the
character of the people on it. We could, like other schools, allow unrestricted
registration and fill classes with excess numbers, which would be in our
favour. Instead, we choose to protect the experience and balance of every
participant. By setting these boundaries, we protect the safe, elegant, and
respectful environment that our students value.
β οΈ Response Protocol
If you are offered a spot, register promptly. Missing the response
window will result in immediate removal from the waitlist, and your
place will be passed on to the next person without exception.
π« Good Faith Clause
Blocking a spot without genuine intent, or failing to uphold your commitment,
may result in blacklisting from future registrations. This applies
especially to those who have repeatedly requested a place, only to disengage
when one is finally granted. Once blacklisted, please do not message us again
demanding a spot. Requests will no longer be entertained.
β Behaviours That Necessitated
This Policy
Β·
Entitlement: Asking questions such as βDo
you guarantee me a [gender] partner?β or βIs the class free?β when
the fee is clearly stated.
Β·
Impatience: Complaining with lines like βI
added my name months ago, why havenβt I gotten a spot yet?β
Β·
Disengagement: Repeatedly requesting
admission, then failing to register or to even acknowledge communication when a
place is offered.
Β·
Disrespect: Being rude to assistants who
are present to facilitate the process and maintain a healthy class ratio.
What are all the dance forms you teach?
We are a dedicated Tango Dance Academy, with Tango at the heart of our practice and pedagogy.
For those curious about other Latin styles, we offer beginner-level courses and occasional workshops in Dominican Bachata, Jive, and Merengue. These are designed to introduce foundational movement and musicality, not as substitutes for Tango but as complementary explorations.
What is Tango?
Tango is a dance of connection and improvisation, where partners move in harmony to create a unique story with every embrace.
Originating in Buenos Aires, it blends cultural influences with deep emotional expression. With no fixed patterns, it is a conversation of movement, guided by music and mutual understanding – a true dance of the heart.
Can I attend a trial class before enrolling?
We donβt offer trial classes. We offer transformation, for those ready to commit.
You are welcome to join one of our paid introductory Tango workshops before the new batch begins, or register for a session in our ongoing batch to experience the depth and clarity of our training firsthand.
If youβre unsure, wait. If youβre ready, welcome.
Please note:Β Ongoing batch sessions are available only for Tango, not Bachata.
Β
Details about upcoming classes can be found here.
I don't have a dance partner. Is it possible to join alone?
Yes, you can join alone.
We rotate partners during class so everyone has the opportunity to learn. We have a proven record of maintaining a healthy lead-follow ratio from inception, as we consciously choose quality over quantity to ensure the best experience for our students. Though we strive for this balance, we do not assign or guarantee a partner for solo registrations. Therefore, it is best to register with a partner and take full ownership of your participation.
Β
Our Role Philosophy:
At Bangalore Tango Academy,Β we teach both roles (lead and follow)Β regardless of gender. All participants are expected to rotate partners andΒ engage with the full group.
Group classes rely on shared participation. Dancing exclusively with oneΒ partner is not viable and disrupts the learning environment.
If this approach does not resonate with you, or if you prefer training solelyΒ with your partner, we recommend booking a private session instead.
Β
Special Note to Single Men:
Tango is an intimate partner dance. We prioritize a safe and comfortable atmosphere. To maintain healthy ratio and standards, we restrict direct registration for regular batches for single men.
The Introduction to Tango Workshop is the required entry point. It serves as our primary waiting and selection process, allowing us to ensure participants understand the etiquette and respectful nature of the dance. Registering for a workshop is the best way to get a spot and significantly increases your chances of joining a future batch. In very rare cases, a direct spot may open in a batch, but only for those who have already joined our waiting list.
Β
Do I require prior experience in dancing?
Not at all! Most of our students begin with no prior dance experience, so thereβs no need to worry.
Β
Our instructorsβ innovative teaching methods make learning smooth and enjoyable, and you can confidently start from scratch with our wellβstructured, beginnerβfriendly classes.
Β
We also offer classes at different levels, allowing you to join at the stage that best matches your experience and progress naturally.
Is pre-registration required?
Yes. We do not accommodate walk-ins or last-minute registrations. Partner dance requires advance planning and balanced batches, which means participant numbers must be confirmed early.
To reserve your spot, complete your registration in advance. You will be notified when a spot is available. Ensure that you provide the correct WhatsApp number and check your messages regularly. We are not responsible for missed notifications or delays in response.
Unnecessarily blocking a spot may result in blacklisting from future registrations.
Make sure you provide the correct WhatsApp number and check your messages. We are not responsible for missed notifications or delays in response.
Recommended Timelines:
β’ 2-3 weeks in advance for regular batches
β’ 10-12 days before for workshops
What if I miss a class?
Major Holidays
Batch sessions are scheduled around major holidays such as Diwali, Christmas, and New Year.
Β
Missed Classes Policy
If you miss a class, we cannot extend or compensate with extra sessions. Tracking individual attendance is not feasible. Our model is simple: you pay a monthly fee, as in any academy, and attend classes.
Β
Curriculum Design
Our curriculum is non-linear, with each class offering standalone value. Missed content cannot be replicated exactly. At Bangalore Tango Academy, learning is not about counting hours, itβs about absorbing content.
Β
Subscription Value
Most students end up attending more than double the hours their fee technically covers. We encourage you to join as many sessions as your subscription allows, across levels, to accelerate progress and deepen understanding.
Β
Added Privileges
These are bonuses, not part of the core subscription:
- Access to Tango Improvers classes
- Access to regular beginner Tango workshops
Progression Options
- Improvers Subscription: After completing the beginner course, you may revisit beginner classes while attending improvers sessions. Ideal for revision and reinforcement.
- One-on-One Review: If you miss 3 or more classes and feel disconnected for any reason, we recommend booking a one-on-one session to consolidate your learning.
Commitment & Academy Ethos
We go above and beyond for students who show commitment and consistency.
As an academy, not a transactional service. our policies are designed to uphold that distinction. Missed classes are not grounds for negotiation or compensation.
Β
Note on Bachata
Some of the above options may not apply to Bachata, which currently runs in a single-level format.
Β
Please read the terms and conditions carefully before registering.
Can I join a batch after it has started?
In rare cases, yes. This is only possible if the capped number of 12 participants has not been reached.
Joining is allowed through the first two classes. If you miss the initial sessions, we will support you in catching up, provided you commit to consistent attendance from that point onward.
Is there an age limit?
There is no strict age limit.
Anyone with interest and enthusiasm is welcome.
What do I wear to class?
No specific dance wear or shoes are required to start these classes.
Simply wear comfortable clothes. Any smooth-soled, narrow shoes, socks, or even jazz shoes will work perfectly.
If you prefer wearing shoes during the session, please ensure they are clean and change into them after arriving at the studio.
Location of the class?
Koramangala: Studio is near Koramangala Club
Indiranagar: Studio is nearΒ 100 feet road
Jayanagar: Studio is near Jayadeva Hospital metro station
Β
The exact class location will be shared with registered participants via WhatsApp one day prior to the session.
We have chosen not to disclose the venue publicly in advance due to repeated incidents of unregistered walk-ins, which have disrupted class dynamics and compromised participant experience. This boundary is essential to protect the safety, privacy, and integrity of our academy.
If you are assessing commute feasibility, we have provided a nearby landmark to help you gauge distance.
How frequently do batches start?
We start new batch registrations every 3 months. Each batch is capped at 12 participants to ensure quality.
If you book early, you are more likely to get a spot. If the batch fills up, you will need to wait for the next cycle.
What is the registration process?
Will I get a certificate at the end of batch?
In the world of Tango, mastery is not measured by certificates but by the ability to connect with one’s partner and the music.
The essence of tango cannot be encapsulated by a certificate or a piece of paper.
What are all the programs you offer?
Hereβs a brief overview of what you offer:
- In-Studio Classes: Learn tango in a traditional classroom setting.
- Online Classes: Convenient learning from home.
- Private Lessons: Personalized instruction for focused learning.
- Corporate Classes: Engage employees and promote team-building.

- βThe Consent ConversationβΒ β A Tango-Inspired Workshop on Inclusion & Connection:Β A transformative workshop using Argentine Tango to engage with inclusion, boundaries, and embodied consent β delivered in a fully interactive format.
Accepted mode of payment for registration?
We only accept UPI payments.
Β
If you encounter a βΉ2,000 transaction limit, this is an NPCI security protocol. To prevent fraud, all UPI apps restrict payments to βΉ2,000 when a QR code is scanned from a phoneβs gallery.
To pay the full amount without this restriction, please scan the QR code directly from a separate device like a laptop or another phone using your camera. You can also manually enter the UPI ID displayed directly underneath the QR code to initiate the transaction manually in your app.
Are sessions free of charge?
No. All classes at the Academy have a clearly stated fee at the time of registration.
Our Academy is a recognized brand, and the fees reflect the teacherβs extensive training in Argentina, together with her depth of experience and knowledge. These are not casual hobby sessions. Every class is professional, structured, and valued accordingly.
Does learning several partner styles simultaneously lead to confusion?
Not at all. In fact, it deepens your understanding.
Partner dancing relies on a shared foundational base, which applies across all styles.
These forms do not compete. They complement each other. A technique that feels elusive in one style often clicks when approached through another. There is significant overlap in movement vocabulary, with rich cross-pollination across genres.
Each style interprets movement differently depending on rhythm and musicality, but together they build body awareness, alignment, and musical sensitivity. This integrated approach makes beats and rhythms more intuitive and accessible.
Our instructorβs teaching method simplifies recurring steps across styles, ensuring fast and effective learning.
If you prefer to begin with one form, we recommend starting with Tango. It offers unmatched clarity, structure, and grounding that benefits all other styles.
